I am not currently working as I have moved to being full time at the University of Exeter.
Over the last 17 years I have worked in the NHS and privately as an occupational therapist specialising in helping people to cope and achieve the things that they want to in life, whilst suffering from physical and emotional problems, sleep disturbance and phobias. I now work as a Wellbeing Consultant for students at the University of Exeter who are experiencing difficulties managing their mental health.
10 years ago I started working with people with fibromyalgia and persistent pain. As part of this work I discovered the benefits of hypnotherapy. My experience of using Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and Mindfulness told me that ‘people do want to change, but often they find that they get stuck’. Hypnotherapy helps people to overcome the obstacles and make the changes they desire. The more I used it and attended short courses, I was amazed by the successes.
As a result I went on to qualify as a Solution Focused Hypnotherapist with the Clifton Practice in Plymouth (the gold standard in hypnotherapy). To my mind Solution Focused Therapy is the best of the other therapies put together. It is a collaborative process and most of the change takes place out of the session. You are firmly in control of the pace and direction of change. I thoroughly enjoy doing this therapy and the feedback is that it is an enjoyable process to participate in.
I am registered with a number of professional bodies:
