Late nights and less sleep may lead to weight gain

The British Medical Journal releases news articles around relevant issues and this article spoke of the increasing links between lack of sleep and the chance of weight gain and obesity. It looked at some research that looked at why this may happen..

What the research has indicated is that people with restricted sleep eat more calories than those sleeping more. … a whopping 550 calories more per day on average!

They also found that people mainly ate those calories late in the evening between 10pm and 4am. Not only were people eating more, but the food that they ate was more fatty and therefore likely to be converted into fat. As many studies before the researchers stressed the importance of sleeping more when looking at weight management strategies….
